Join Alberta Enterprise Corporation, Startup Edmonton and TEC Edmonton for an evening getting to know the ins-and-outs of Silicon Valley. More than a startup culture cliche, Silicon Valley is a thriving technology hub and our panel of speakers will share their insights to how the Valley operates and how you can best access its people, capital and customer connections.

Featured speakers:

Ameena El-Bibany | Analyst - Rising Tide VC

Ameena sources and leads investments in top companies across personalized medicine, biotechnology, health IT and more. At the intersection of science and technology, she works with academic institutions to leverage and commercialize campus-based research and intellectual property, to further bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Rising Tide is a fund that has invested in 38 companies at the Seed stage and is now raising capital for a Series A fund.

Sandi MacPherson

A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, Sandi moved to the SF Bay Area in 2012 to immerse herself in startups and consumer tech. She learned about tech products and social platforms by creating several (failed) startups and digital products. In mid-2013, she started Quibb - a social platform for industry news, analysis, and commentary. She also started the 50/50 Pledge initiative, which aims to get 50% women speakers on the stages of the tech industry's most important conferences and events, working with partners such as The Lean Startup Conference and MozCon.

Sandi is currently the founder of her second early-stage startup - ddouble.ai, a messaging-first social platform. Prior to moving to the United States, Sandi worked in cleantech and in the non-profit sector in climate science and environmental policy roles. She holds an Honours B.Sc. degree in Environmental Science from Acadia University and an MBA from Toronto's Schulich School of Business.
